Pokemon Home Update 3.0.0 Finally Adds Scarlet and Violet Compatibility

The latest Pokemon Home update on Nintendo Switch finally adds the long-awaited ability to transfer from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The latest Pokemon Home update finally adds the long-awaited compatibility with the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games. The wait times for Pokemon Home and Pokemon Bank compatibility continue to get longer with each new generation of the series.

The latest additions to the mainline series of Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, came out in November 2022. Since then, it’s been a waiting game for players excited to add the latest generation of new Pokemon to the Pokemon Home service. It was already known that it would take a while for compatibility to go live, considering how long it took for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl a year prior. The wait for Pokemon Home Gen 9 compatibility has proven to be even longer, though the 3.0.0 update is finally live.

The Pokemon Home version 3.0.0 update was released on May 30. As of writing this, attempting to log in to the service results in an “undergoing maintenance” server error, so first impressions aren’t possible, but that’s expected downtime while the patch gets rolled out. The 3.0.0 update primarily boasts its Gen 9 compatibility, but there are other additions as well, such as the ability to view a Pokemon’s stats from the different games it’s been in.

This update comes with bonuses, too, such as players connecting the Gen 9 games to the Pokemon Home mobile app being able to receive one of the Paldean starters, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly. The latest addition to Pokemon Home will finally allow any players who own both Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet to transfer everything they’ve caught between the two games, as well as transfer Pokemon caught from previous generations into Paldea, assuming they’re compatible. Only around 400 Pokemon are available in Scarlet and Violet right now, but the DLC coming later this year will be adding more.

This has been the longest wait so far concerning new generation compatibility for either of Game Freak’s cloud transfer services, which are the now free-to-use Pokemon Bankor Pokemon Home. The Gen 4 remakes, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl held the title before with 178 days of wait time between the release of the games and the release of the update. Now, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet compatibility boasts 193 days of wait time since the games’ launch on November 18. It is hopefully a trend that Game Freak will be attempting to break moving forward with future titles, though it is somewhat understandable.
